If it is necessary to wash your kapok product, it is important that you follow the washing and drying instructions provided here.
Washing instructions:
- Always wash the product separately and only at 40 degrees to protect the kapok fibers.
- Choose a short wash program and avoid additional rinsing or soaking, as this can damage the kapok fibers.
- Choose a wash program with extra spin or perform an additional spin cycle after washing (preferably 1,200 rpm) to remove as much water as possible before drying.
- Use a gentle detergent without bleach or enzymes. Do not use fabric softener.
Drying instructions
-
After washing, the product must be dried immediately. Kapok fibers clump together when wet, but become airy again when dried according to instructions. Please note that it takes some time for kapok fibers to dry properly. It may take up to 4 hours in the dryer.
- Dry separately in the tumble dryer.
- Select a program at medium temperature and dry for about 30 minutes at a time, then feel the product. If the fibers continue to clump, continue the drying process in the tumble dryer. Shake the product to distribute the fibers.
- If the product still feels slightly damp, remove it from the tumble dryer and allow the remaining moisture to escape by placing it upright in a warm place – e.g., in a room with underfloor heating on a clothes horse.
- It is advantageous to use wool dryer balls in the tumble dryer, as these help to distribute the kapok fibers and thus prevent clumping. Do not use tennis balls!
